Premise
From the introduction:
One night you are awakened from a deep sleep by a low humming noise. Before you can move you are engulfed in a ball of pale, blue light and lose consciousness.
You dream you are floating in the lake near Eamon Hall. You hear a soft voice droning in your ear in some strange language. The words gradually become recognizable and you slowly open your eyes. However the floating sensation persists. You are strapped loosely into an acceleration hammock which is swaying gently. A young Terran marine drifts up to you and salutes smartly. (A difficult feat in 0 g.) He informs you that the captain, Lt. Commander Antare, requests your presence immediately.
On your way to the bridge you learn that you are on the Terran Federation ship Valley Forge, a Chicago-class frigate, which has been stripped down for speed and crammed to the bulkheads with anti-detection gear.
As you enter the bridge the captain greets you with a smile and gestures for you to sit at the astro-navigator's position which is empty. He swivels his pilot's chair toward you and says:
"Greetings, you have again been chosen to perform great deeds here in the 35th century. Since your successful assassination of the Krell Emperor, Earth has regained its freedom and liberated half of its former space colonies. However the fighting is bitter and advances are slow. The Krell war cry is 'victory or death!'
"According to our intelligence reports, the brilliant Krell scientist, Mordir Kang, has developed a doomsday device called the Zontar Ray Machine. It generates an anti-matter field which, when it touches matter, produces dimensional inversion... a rip in the fabric of time and space. The matter is sucked through into the 8th dimension with cataclysmic results. Our agents believe he is at a secret base somewhere on the planet Altair V, in the Sylos sector. Your mission is to locate the base, kill Kang, steal the device plans, and destroy the machine.
You will be given an explosive device to destroy the machine. The "link" command will let your helmet computer tap into enemy databases to learn what information they contain. Your A-Team member for this operation is Lt. Slade. B-Team members will be beamed down as reinforcements when requested by you by radio transmitter. Please memorize the following codewords:
Code word Request Caligula Reenforcements Nero Intelligence update Brutus Mission completed You will once more be fitted with new light-weight ceramplast body armour. The helmet contains a MAC-68X, an experimental 512-bit computer of the most advanced design. It is voice activated and will interface you with most devices simply by saying the name of the device. By saying "MCP" you can activate the MAC-68X monitor directly. You were taught Galactic Standard in your sleep, so there should be no language problems. Your fee for a successful mission will be 4000 gold pieces. You will find your supplies and your A-Team member in the transporter room.
