Death's Gateway is an Eamon adventure written by Bob Linden.
Premise
From the introduction:
During the night of the last new moon, Locus the Blacksmith disappeared. Red-Eye, the town drunk, says that he saw Locus lifted into the sky!
Hearty laughter greeted this crazy talk.
A search of the blacksmith shop uncovered a map with a cryptic note. The note says "bring the gates here so that my pretty will be protected".
Following the directions shown on the map, you find the burnt ruins of a castle keep.
Searching the ruins you find the smoldering body of poor Locus. Nearby you find a spiral staircase descending into the bowels of the earth.
As you stand there, wondering if going down is a very good idea, you see Yohab, an adventurer you know by sight, scramble from the ruins! As he hurries away, you can't fail to notice that he has been stripped of all his possessions!
Strange... Only yesterday you saw him well armed, with a fine suit of armor and a pouch of gold...
