Firestorm is an Eamon adventure written by Phil Schulz.

Background

Firestorm was announced in the March 1995 issue of the newsletter and is the last of Schulz's six published adventures. Club president Tom Zuchowski noted that Schulz was awarded seven free adventures for submitting Firestorm.

Premise

The city of Belbury has been occupied by the forces of Thorak, a powerful and cruel ruler, and you learn that they'll soon summon a supernatural being which will destroy the city entirely in an event called the "Firestorm". You set out to stop it but along the road you're waylaid by a group of Thorak's men; however, before they can take you to Thorak they're attacked by another group and during the fighting you're knocked out and left for dead. You awaken and hurry to Belbury, knowing the Firestorm is close at hand.

Schulz also includes in his introduction a few notes and tips for the player.

Full introduction

For the last eight months, the city of Belbury has been occupied by an elite army from the other side of the world. This army, made up of soldiers who will think nothing of taking hundreds of lives to further their cause, are about to burn the city down. From what you have learned, they have found a way to summon a supernatural being that will destroy the city in one fiery blast. This blast — now being commonly referred to as the "Firestorm" — is expected to happen in just over a week. You have that much time to find out what you can do to save the city.

You set out on your quest. Only an hour on the road, you are attacked by a band of thugs. As they beat you, you see the symbol of the army of Thorak — the very same army that is threatening to inflict the Firestorm. Just before you pass out, you hear one of them comment on what a good addition to the army you'll be once you've been "re-educated" to the ways of Thorak.

Somewhere along the road, your captors are attacked themselves. You are left for dead in the forest. You wake up, somehow still in possession of all of your weapons and armor. You are in a lot of pain, but at least you are still alive. As you gather your wits again, a feeling of dread comes over you — the Firestorm is going to happen (or is supposed to happen) in just a few days!

You are the world's last hope. You must find Thorak and defeat him before his power grows any more. Knowing the egotistical nature of your enemy, you figure that Thorak will not be the easiest person to find. You figure that he's secluded himself in some far-off place where it will be just the two of you, fighting to the death.

Before you begin, here's a quick list of some of the special stuff in this adventure that I thought you'd like to know about:

Deleted commands: Power, Blast, Heal, Speed, Smile, Say

New commands: Greet, Cast, Disassemble, Reassemble, Train

I'll leave it up to you to figure out what each of these new commands is for.

Player's and all monsters' health is now printed as a percentage (out of 100) instead of the usual "perfect health", "hurt", "dying", etc.

If you "examine" a weapon, you will be told the dice and sides that apply to that weapon as well as the usual description.

You need spell points to cast any of the spells. At the start, you have none and will not be able to earn any until you do a certain task. Once you have done this, you slowly gain magic points as you play.

There's more too. Wait and see for yourself.

Also, because of the size of the database, there is no DOS on this disk. If you copy this adventure, be sure that you do not copy to a disk with DOS on it, otherwise you will get a "disk full" error when you try try to save your game.
