A map is a representation of places in an adventure, normally showing the relative locations of rooms and the exits that connect them, and often indicating the locations of monsters, artifacts, and other important features. Players use maps to avoid getting lost, and often draw them while adventuring. As author Margaret Anderson notes, "tracking your progress with a hardcopy map is essential."
Players may create maps by hand or with software such as Trizbort.
