The Adventurer's Guide to Eamon is an online world-building project created by Huw Williams that adapts the world of the Eamon text adventure game series into a campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop fantasy roleplaying games. The project launched in early 2024, with content being added incrementally.

Background

By the early 2020s Williams had spent several years documenting the real-world Eamon series for the Eamon Wiki and had grown interested in the fictional world in which the adventures were set. He gathered the many snippets of information that various authors had revealed over the years regarding the world's history, geography, and inhabitants, and began trying to organize them into coherent whole. In the the Guide's FAQ, Williams likened the process to stitching a crazy quilt.

Williams gives several reasons for building the Guide; one is to encourage fresh interest in Eamon by connecting it to the popular D&D role-playing game series which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024. On Bluesky he writes:

Eamon was created to bring Dungeons & Dragons-style adventuring to the computer.

The Adventurers Guide to Eamon was created to bring Eamon-style adventuring to Dungeons & Dragons.

He also writes that the Guide is a hobby and a source of personal enjoyment, and is a creative outlet for writing, coding, design, and art.

Work on the Guide began in the early 2020s and by 2023 most of the site's basic architecture was in place. The first official deployment was in February 2024, with further deployments following every few months as more articles, pages, and functionality were added. Williams notes that he intends to keep adding to the Guide in perpetuity and that it will never be entirely finished.

In common with the Eamon Wiki, the Guide is hosted by DigitalOcean.

Philosophy

Williams states that the Guide aims to be as faithful as possible to the material created by Eamon's adventure writers, and adds original content mainly as a means of tying the material together and grounding it in the wider world. For example, The Training Ground refers to a Council of Twelve that once ruled the region, so the Guide paints in the surrounding historical events that led to the establishment (and dissolution) of the Council.

Features

Guide content is presented in two ways:

  • pages that describe broad topics, and
  • articles that describe narrow, specific subjects.

Pages include interactive maps, calendars, and orreries; a historical timeline; and lists of races, monsters, and individuals.

Articles are always accessible in the sidebar and cover things like individual towns, kingdoms, historical events, important characters, artifacts, monsters, and the like. As of 2026 the Guide has more than one thousand articles, with more added in each deployment.
