Template:Hatnote/doc

The hatnote template adds a short note to the top of an article to provide disambiguation of closely related terms, or otherwise briefly summarize or explain a topic. It places an HTML <div> block around the text entered as its only argument, which provides standardized formatting (contents are normally indented and italicized). This template is also the basis for other more specialized hatnote-type templates; see the hatnote templates category for a list.

The template does not automatically create links. Links and other desired formatting must be explicitly added using normal wiki markup.
