The Call-A.P.P.L.E. Eamon Adventure Contest was an adventure design competition organized by Michael Thyng and announced in the December 1982 issue of Call-A.P.P.L.E.. The contest ran through February of 1983 with the winners announced in the March 1984 issue.

Rules

The rules of the contest were given in the December 1982 issue:

Extended content
  1. All A.P.P.L.E. members are eligible to enter except Eamon creator Don Brown and A.P.P.L.E. employees.
  2. Don Brown will judge the entries and select the first, second, and third place winners. His decision will be final.
  3. All adventures submitted become property of A.P.P.L.E.
  4. To have your adventure eligible for judging, it must be within the bounds of good taste. Use your own best judgement. Observe any of the currently available adventures for additional guidance. It should be in English. The decision of the Contest Coordinator or the Judge shall be final.
  5. No entries will be returned.
  6. All adventures deemed eligible for judging will become public domain software. A.P.P.L.E. will make copies of them available for purchase after the contest.
  7. Your adventure must conform to the format established by Don Brown. You can see the format on any of the Eamon adventures which are available from A.P.P.L.E.'s "As-is" software. On Volume 144, Don Brown has set up an adventure creation disk which also contains The Beginners Cave.
  8. All adventures must be winnable. That is, if it is impossible for a character to ever make it through your adventure without being killed, then your adventure does not meet the requirements for eligibility. Note, you don't have to be able to win every time, it just has to be possible with some regular characters.
  9. Hints: Don Brown does appreciate puns. Consider a theme for your adventure and carry that through your adventure. The Eamon adventures called Death Star was a Star Wars take-off. You might consider something that is happening or has happened in the news. Or consider Politics, Sports, Education, the Arts, the Computer Industry, a TV program, something based on your job, the future, the past, or something funny, scary, or intellectual.
  10. The deadline. All program diskettes must arrive by Midnight, Monday, February 28th, 1983 and will not be returned.
  11. All entries must be on 5-1/4 inch floppy diskettes.
  12. Mail one or two diskettes to the contest director. If the disk drives that the Judge or Contest Director use cannot read your diskette, your entry will be rejected. You might consider mailing two diskettes to help ensure that we can read your entry.
  13. All contest adventures must be able to be run after The Beginners Cave, just as all other adventures are.
  14. We expect between 20 and 100 adventures to be entered in the contest. Consequently, it may be quite some time after February 28th before we know who the winner is. Because of that we can't tell you exactly when the winner will be announced. However, the Contest Coordinator will tell you how many entries were received and how many were deemed eligible shortly after February 28th.
  15. You may enter as many different adventures as you wish.
  16. Mail your entries to:

    Eamon Contest Coordinator
    c/o A.P.P.L.E.
    304 Main Ave. S.
    Renton, WA 98055

  17. If you have questions, you may call the Contest Coordinator at (206) 524-2744. Pacific Time Zone 9AM to 3PM. (Don't just call to say you are writing an adventure.)
  18. This contest is void where prohibited by law.

The prizes were credit for software or other products available through A.P.P.L.E.: $250 for first place, $100 for second, and $50 for third.
